Last Friday Mayor Mike Moore was among about 150 elected officials, company executives and employees at the official grand opening of Amazon.com Inc.’s warehouse and distribution center at River Ridge. The Mayor thanked Amazon officials for opening the facility in Jeffersonville saying, “The tip of the iceberg has been touched. There’s so much more to come.” Amazon has said it will hire 1,050 employees and invest about $150 million in Clark County by 2015. The center opened in October 2012 and so far has employed about 900 people. This is the fourth Amazon fulfillment center in Indiana and the largest in North America. Currently, only 50% of the facility is being utilized, but the company plans to expand operations later this year.
