The City of Jeffersonville broke ground Monday, November 3rd on a $3 million downtown marina on the Ohio River. Plans call for a complete overhaul of existing boat docks and the addition of a fishing pier.
“Time has taken its toll on our current docks, leaving our river’s edge in disrepair. Our boat docks have been neglected for way too long,” said Mayor Mike Moore. “Now is the time to put a plan into action that will maximize one of Jeffersonville’s greatest assets – the Ohio River.”
“We are a river city. The Ohio River is an important part of our heritage,” said Moore. “With a new marina along our riverfront we will build upon that heritage. It will provide an economic boost to our downtown. Once completed, the boaters will be allowed to dock and shop, dock and dine, and explore downtown Jeffersonville. The fishing pier will be an exciting addition to our riverfront,” said Moore. “I think fishermen and sightseers will be delighted with the chance to take better advantage of the Ohio River.”
Mayor Mike Moore says the project will “transform our riverfront into a destination point.” The project is expected to be completed next year.
