Recently, the City of Jeffersonville teamed up with Clarksville to create a task force to address issues surrounding the plight of the homeless in both communities. Last week Resolution 2013-R-2 was adopted by the Jeffersonville Board of Public Works, outlining the policies and procedures the City will follow prior to any future sweeps of homeless camps. Among the highlights is the stipulation that the city posts a 48-hour notice prior to removing any temporary shelter on public property. If a shelter is removed, a notice will be placed at the site that provides contact information for the city to notify the individual of where their belongings have been taken. Another stipulation is that prior to undertaking any planned sweep, the city will make reasonable efforts to reach out to agencies which assist the homeless in our community.
