Bruce DeArk, Depute Chief of the Jeffersonville Fire Department stated the exercise was to simulate a disaster in the area. The full scale training scenario is held every other year, and this year it took place at River Ridge Commerce Center. The scenario involved a school bus, vehicles and HAZMAT issues. Jeffersonville Emergency Responders combined with Clarksville Fire, Yellow Ambulance and eight other agencies.
Jeffersonville High School and Charlestown High School theater departments simulated injuries on the school bus and cars. They applied makeup, simulated injuries and acted out personalities to make the scenario more realistic.
The Local Emergency Planning Committee will receive a full report from those evaluating the scenario.
