Mayor Mike Moore signed a new collective bargaining agreement on Tuesday, September 2, between the City of Jeffersonville and the Jeffersonville Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #100.

The new contract takes effective immediately and will expire December 31, 2026. The existing contract had expired at the end of last year.

“I am thrilled that we are able to finalize an agreement that is fair and equitable without jeopardizing public safety,” said Moore who took over contract negotiations in early August after the Council was unable to reach an agreement. “With a short-term contract, it will give us an opportunity to better evaluate the impact of recent state legislation on our city finances. We’re also optimistic that the General Assembly will take another look at how it funds local government when it convenes again in January.”

Police will receive a 2% raise starting in January 2026 with the base pay for an officer going from $66,000 to $67,320. The amount the City matches towards an officer’s 457 plan will increase from 3% to 4%. Meanwhile, the existing rotation of five days on and four days off will remain.

“We made a commitment to our officers last year that we wanted them to have more time-off,” said Moore. “With some structural changes within the department, we believe we can still live up to that commitment by making the existing rotation more cost-efficient.”

Moore said the contract will be fully funded when he submits the 2026 budget to the Council.

“I’m told the union approved this contract overwhelmingly,” said Moore who complimented Union President Anthony Stewart and his team for acknowledging the financial constraints the City is facing as a result of Senate Bill 1. “It’s an indication that my administration and the officers have a shared vision on the future and direction of the police department.”

The contract was approved at a special Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.

The mayor thanked the FOP and City Controller Heather Metcalf for their hard work in finalizing the deal.
