It’s time! After years of planning and community information sessions, construction will start next week on the $29-million Charlestown Pike Road widening and improvement project.

The project will widen and improve Charlestown Pike from Holmans Lane to Salem-Noble Road, as well as Utica-Sellersburg Road from Charlestown Pike to State Road 62.

Signs will be in place for the closure and there will be detour signs directing traffic around the closed road. Traffic is encouraged to use Charlestown Pike to Holmans Lane and to 10th Street for the detour route.

This is a long-term closure. We will provide updates as they become available for the length of the closure. The relocation of the water line is expected to finish mid-late October.

We appreciate your patience as we work to make these necessary improvements!

You are literally cutting off every avenue to my house and adding 45 minutes to my commute to work. So maybe work on one project at a time rather than closing multiple roads.

  2. Ellen Mcgowen says:

Will Utica sellersburg (between charlestown pike and 62) be open before the closure Monday?

  3. Eric Paul says:

Having both Utica Sellersburg and Charlestown pike closed is not a good idea. Please finish one before beginning the other to keep some reasonable routes open for those who live in the area.

  4. Ashlee says:

Closing these two roads at the same time for an extended period of time is a horrible idea and the cons heavily outweigh the pros. Hundreds of people who live back here have been largely cut off from 62 and have to travel much further to get to and from their home. Whoever decided to have these two projects going at the same time obviously doesn’t live back here or care about the areas residents.

Are you going to re-compensate us for how much gas we have to use to go around these road closures? We all have to go ten to 20 minutes out of our way just to get home and to work. WORK ON ONE ROAD AT A TIME!!!!

  6. Dave Tunnell says:

This DID NOT HAVE TO BE THIS WAY! There was NO GOOD REASON to have Utica Sellersburg and Charlestown pike cloased at the same time. This was terrible planning. It is adding time a fuel costs for me and other just to go to work and back! We can hardly go anywhere without delay after delay!!! If we had Utica Sellersburg road we could get to Clarksville without having to go through the other stupid idea …. THE ROUNDABOUT! And then up Holmans lane and through all the stop lights!

I guess no one planned on the train cutting us off? Once you turn on Salem noble to 62 and the train comes your stuck. What happens if there’s a fire or ambulance run? What then? This has to be the worst planned road construction ever. Simple solution open Utica Sellersburg before closing Charlestown pike. Plain and simple

I just that is a wonderful idea. I work in the area and it is bumper to bumper every time a train comes. It’s going to take me an hour to get home

I live 1/2 mile north of Utica Sellersburg just off Charlestown Pike. My daughter lives just off Salem Noble. Prior to road closures that trip was 3.0 miles each way. I can still get to her house via Charlestown Pike to Salem Noble and the trip is 3.0 miles. But since Charlestown Pike is closed southbound my detoured trip is 12.2 miles. My son lives on the eastside off New Chapel Road which is now closed daily until mid December. Prior to closing the trip to his house was 3.1 miles. Went there today and the total to his house was 14.2 miles. If this is progress many Jeff residents are sick and tired of it and will get even sicker by the time we vote for local office holders. Remember incumbents you hold your office by the will of the people and your making large numbers of the voting people angrier by the day or by the number of poorly planned actions currently in progress. We the people will be heard.

I see some people going through Utica sellersburg road from Charlestown to 62 how come some people get to do this I even saw a big yellow school bus comes through how much longer is it going to be before the rest of us can come through
